Android Development / Interaction Design / UI/UX

PlayTunes for Android

A simple, beautiful music player for Android that lets you listen to songs, browse artists and albums, and create playlists, all for free.

PlayTunes for Android

The Problem

Most Android music players at the time were either bloated with features nobody asked for or so bare-bones they were painful to use. PlayTunes was my answer to both: a music player that did exactly what you needed and looked great doing it.

Designing for Delight

Every interaction in PlayTunes was considered. Swiping between views, tapping to play, long-pressing for options. It all had to feel intuitive and satisfying. The UI drew from Material Design principles but added its own personality through color and motion.

The best interfaces are the ones you don't notice. You just listen to music and everything works.

Features That Matter

  • Clean library browsing by songs, artists, albums, and playlists
  • Custom playlist creation with drag-to-reorder and quick-add
  • Now playing screen with album art, playback controls, and queue management
  • Background playback with notification controls

The Craft

This was a passion project that let me dig deep into Android development and interaction design. Every animation, every transition, every micro-interaction was hand-tuned. It was a masterclass in caring about the small stuff.

What I Learned

Building PlayTunes taught me that great UX is invisible. When users said "it just works," that was the highest compliment. The project sharpened my eye for interaction design and proved that even utility apps deserve beautiful, thoughtful interfaces.
